In 1928, Walter Davis founded the Davis Aircraft Corporation following the purchase and merger of Vulcan Aircraft and Doyle Aero. Vulcan’s American Moth was modified by engineer Dwight Huntington and certified as the Davis V-3 in 1929. The later D1-W version was powered with a 125 HP Warner radial engine. The parasol monoplane with two open cockpits, became a favorite of sport pilots and even a few racing enthusiasts. Early in the Great Depression, the factory suffered a devastating fire and ceased production.
The Aerodrome’s Davis arrived in the late 1970s and appeared regularly in the shows through the 1990s. It is currently under restoration.
