In 1929, two prolific aircraft designers, Lloyd Stearman and William Boeing, along with a host of other aircraft concerns, formed United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, owned by Boeing. It was here in 1936 that Boeing incorporated Stearman’s “Cloud Boy” drawings into a rugged new training aircraft, the Stearman Kaydet. It became the most widely used primary trainer of the Army and Navy.
Their stability and slow speed made them useful as crop dusters after the war. The Stearman remains a popular favorite today at airshows around the country. Many have been modified with more powerful engines for use in high performance aerobatics. Aerodrome pilot, Rob Williams, owns and flies this example immaculately restored in 2001.
