Favored by racing pilots, this speedy, sport aircraft was flown in cross-country and pylon races by Phoebe Omlie, Johnny Livingston and Vern Roberts. In 1930 Phoebe Omlie’s winnings were $3,250.00 when the national hourly wage was only $.50. The Monocoupe was quite popular and sold well when other aircraft types had difficulty in the market.
This Monocoupe is unusual in that it has a Warner Scarab Jr. engine installed. The aircraft was restored by the late Ed Thompson of Flanders, NJ and was donated by the Thompson family in 2017.
