“We will take you high or low, fast or slow, anyway you want to go,” starts our barker’s spiel–we’re still barnstorming, just as they did in the 1920s.
The New Standard D-25 was the greatest of the barnstorming aircraft. Designed expressly for passenger-hopping by Charles Day, doubling the payload of “old” Standard to four. The use of modern (1928) construction techniques, big high-lift wings and rugged wide-stance landing gear made the D-25 easy to fly and capable of operating out of the smallest and roughest fields. During Prohibition, two were confiscated for “rum running” and became NT-2 of the US Coast Guard.
