The E-2 evolved into the Taylor/Piper J-2 then to the Piper J-3 Cub, the Piper PA-11, and Super Cub. Modern variations are still being produced for sale and by home builders. Noted for its ease of handling, it was an all-around good training and sport airplane. It is powered by a Continental A-40 four-cylinder engine; one of the first very successful four-cylinder aircraft power plants.
This aircraft was restored by and is owned and flown by Aerodrome pilot and master-mechanic, Ken Cassens. Records indicate that this aircraft was based at the Poughkeepsie Airport near where Cole Palen grew up. It is quite possible that he saw it there in the 1930s as a youngster. A complete history of this aircraft appears in an article by Pete Colomello in issue #109 of SKYWAYS.
